At long last...

After many many new adventures in life and major life changes, with renewed enthusiasm, I am undertaking this blog again. When I began it, I was a single photographer with the beginnings of a career niche in the Minneapolis market with a great magazine company. Now, at Fort Benning Georgia, I find myself married to the absolute love of my life, and proudly serving my country as a 2LT Infantry Officer in the U.S. Army. Needless to say, there have been some dramatic changes that have pulled me from photography much longer than I'd have liked. But none the less, I still love life a little more everyday and have no better way of describing it other than through my lens.

As with most worthwhile undertakings, it's only suitable to begin with a quote. While this will be primarily a photo blog, not necessarily of the high caliber kind, this quote is most appropriate. Cheers!

"Therefore, since the world has still much good, but much less good than ill, and while the sun and moon endure, Luck's a chance, but trouble's sure, I'd face it as a wise man would, and train for ill and not for good. 'Tis true, the stuff I bring for sale is not so brisk as a brew as ale: out of a stem that scored the hand, I wrung it in a weary land. But take it: if the smack is sour, the better for the embittered hour; it will do good to heart and head. When your soul is in my soul's stead; and I will friend you, if I may, in the dark and cloudy day."

...and...

....and there's been grilling and picnics...

Summer Baby! Summer!

July- smack down in the middle of the 3 months that, at least temperature wise, can get warm enough to constitute summer in MN. This has been one crazy July~ there will be more posts to follow but for starters, there were 3 different shoots I was @ on the 4th...

"There's Treasure Everywhere"

On this Friday, before setting out for a weekend of exploring back-country southern MN, I thought it only appropriate to nod to the great sense of wonder that only Calvin and Hobbes can articulate. Have a great weekend all!

A Moment of Ambiguity

No Foto Today. I've ingested the work of a handful of fantastic photographers today and all the work I liked supported a conclusion I've recently been conjecturing. Good photography really is in the midtones- not every stellar photo has to have that huge hump in the middle of your little histogram to be amazing. However, really strong photos, ones that tell the best story and leave you with the feelings of 1) DAMN and 2) life will be alright if this pic became reality right now, those are the ones that are like god-vision (used loosely)- you can see everything all at once but still find yourself hovering on the most important subject. *Just Saturate*
Qualifying remark- photos that represent every tone equally are so stable they're unnerving- good or bad, too intense...

Film is still unique in the capability of producing this fantastic "realm of the universally described"- transfigured.

If this is too much rhetorical bulls*t- check out work by Peter Frank Edwards, Alec Soth, Spencer Combs, or Lou O'Bedlam...'

Best o' Luck

Brent and Tracy

Engagement shoots are honestly one of my favorite shoots to do!  (This one, I was assisting a friend and wonderful fotog, Rachel Nadeau - www.nploft.com)  The next one will involve three things~ a random portable leather chair (thanks Rachel!), a bottle of wine, and a least a few packs of gum...ha!
